What to look for when choosing a suburb

Where you’re going to live is probably on of the most important choices you’ll make when it comes to building your first home. There are so many things to consider when choosing a block location. You’ll have to look at your lifestyle, needs and budget that fits you and your family’s preferences. Here are some things to consider when choosing where to live:

Lifestyle

Think of what and where you like to spend your free time. Are you a beach person or do you want something that has more of a country feel? Or maybe even close to the city and other amenities? Does your lifestyle take you North or South of the city? Making sure your new home is close to work, friends and family is an important factor to consider before you decide.

Transportation

Consider your commute and how you will need to travel to get to work. Do you need public transportation? If so make sure the suburb is near a train station or at least has regular bus routes. Or if your job requires that you drive, make sure you have easy access to major freeways to reduce your commute time.

Block size

Is a big backyard important to you? Do you already have a big family or do you plan on having a family in the future? Finding a block that is large enough for the kids to run around in and can also accommodate a larger home is a must. If you would like a more low maintenance lifestyle or have a busy schedule, maybe a smaller block will better suit you.

Amenities

Does the suburb have access to shops? Or are there plans to ad in a shopping centre in the near future? If being close to amenities is important, make sure you look into how close recreation, schools and shopping are to your new home. Having and extracurricular activities and things to do on the weekend close by will help you feel apart of the community you are moving in to.

Budget

Ultimately your budget will have the final say, when it comes to choosing a suburb. Some suburbs are just more expensive than others, for the reasons above. Prioritising what works within your budget is the way to go.
