Colour plays a huge part in home design. From neutral palettes that allow furniture and accessories to take centre stage, to bold statement walls that add instant personality, the right colours can transform a space instantly.
At GO Homes, we’re proud to bring you a little interior inspiration, thanks to our friends at Wattyl. They have recently released their 2022 Colour Forecast, featuring four distinct colour palettes that offer a world of possibilities for homes of all shapes and sizes.
Ready to find out what 2022 has in store? Keep reading as we take a deep dive into the colours and their meanings – and helpful tips to help you bring them to life in your own home.
Embrace a New Normal
Wattyl have given a poignant name to their home colour trends 2022 – New Normal. This name not only reflects the life-changing events that have happened over the last year and a half, but also on our increasing consciousness of the importance of our natural world.
New Normal helps to create a connection with nature through a variety of colours and textures and the blending together of inside and outside spaces. As we hope for a fresh future after so much uncertainty, nothing says fresh like a new coat of paint.
With a selection of 16 colours across four palettes, the Wattyl New Normal collection spans warm neutral tones in ivory, greiges (a blend of grey and beige) and browns, to reassuring blues and greys and revitalising greens. There truly is something for everyone here.
Palette #1 – Return to Simplicity
Like its name suggests, the Return to Simplicity palette is designed to instil a sense of calm and serenity within the home. It features serene pale blues that create an instant feeling of relaxation, balanced with whites, off-whites and beige tones. It’s peaceful and elegant – offering the perfect contrast to our busy, modern lives.
So, how can you bring the Return to Simplicity palette to life in your own home? It’s important to maintain the sense of calm by pairing with subtle, tactile surfaces and textures. Think classic Hamptons coastal style, with a mixture of pale wooden floors, white furniture and soft greenery.
Palette #2 – Local Comfort
Nothing says comfort like the feeling of home, and the Local Comfort palette reflects this. It features warm neutrals in ivory, greiges and browns to offer a comfortable, yet refined feel, giving the sense of being cocooned in a place of safety.
To help bring out the best of the Local Comfort palette in your own home, consider matching richer brown colours through furniture and artwork to create an engaging contrast. To underline the sense of nature, add some lush indoor plants as well as handcrafted local objects made from wood or clay.
Palette #3 – Resilient Optimism
Bold and perfectly balanced, the Resilient Optimism palette breathes life and energy through any space. It features uplifting yellow-based colours contrasted with blue and grey tones, creating a sense of nostalgia while setting the scene for today’s share culture and diversity.
If you’d like to bring a touch of Resilient Optimism to your home, a tip is to use the darker coloured walls to frame a diverse set of artworks and portraits. Together with warm wooden furniture and curated accent accessories, it’s easy to bring this look to life in style.
Palette #4 – Conscious Connection
The final palette of the Wattyl New Normal collection is all about nature. Its green-infused colours embrace our innate need to connect with our natural environment, as well as the importance of putting our wellbeing front and centre. The overall effect helps to blur the line between indoor and outdoor living.
To make the Conscious Connection palette work well in your home, you need to embrace the natural environment as much as possible. Think abundant greenery, rich dark floors and a mixture of greens and grey-greens that evoke a sense of calm and serenity.
